Dutchess Republicans want legislative documents on the Web

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Legislature Minority Leader Gary Cooper Thursday said he would introduce legislation to place all of the legislature’s records of resolutions and meeting minutes online in an effort to keep the public fully informed. The resolution calls for legislative records to be added to the county’s website.

“In recent years, Legislature staff purchased the technology and began the painstaking task of scanning over a decade of legislative records to electronically make these documents available to county employees of all departments via the county’s Intranet,” said Cooper (R-Pine Plains), “We now have the technology and the space on the county’s website to upload these documents to be viewed directly by the general public. In an effort of open government we should definitely act on this initiative.”

Presently historic documents are not available to public viewing on the Internet. He said since Democrats won control of the county legislature in January the practice has been discontinued of posting the text of resolutions on the county website that the Legislature will consider at its monthly meetings.
