Gang member tries to stab man during disturbance, police say

ULSTER PARK – A Hip-hop DJ concert at a restaurant and banquet hall at 423 Route 9W in Ulster Park Saturday morning turned ugly as a gang member tried to stab another man, the URGENT task force reported.

Police were tipped off that several gang members would be attending the event and about 3 a.m., as the concert ended, several disturbances occurred in the parking lot.

Rasheen Smith, 30, of 182 Albany Avenue in Kingston, a known Bloods street gang member, became involved in a physical altercation with another man and attempted to stab him with a folding knife.

URENT members were able to subdue Smith and disarm him. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, menacing in the second degree and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 property bond.

Another man, Recardo Langston, 23, of 549 Delaware Avenue in Kingston, was charged with disorderly conduct. Several other people were questioned and released.

Several Ulster County Sheriff’s patrols had to respond to the scene to assist and disarm Smith. Police are investigating to determine if Smith is wanted for a violent felony in Western New York.
