Person jumps off Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge

KINGSTON – Police dive teams Saturday searched the Hudson River near the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge for the body of a person who jumped off the bridge early that morning.

State Police received a report of a person on the bridge at about 1:30 a.m. and when officers arrived, they say that individual jump and strike the water below. Police have not said if the victim was a man or woman.

The State Police dive team with marine patrols from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and City of Kingston Police Department searched all day.

At nightfall Saturday, the search was suspended and no body was found.

The name of the person is being withheld until positive identification can be made, police said.
