HAWTHORNE – A one-vehicle crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Elmsford Wednesday morning claimed the life of a young woman. Another young woman was injured in the 4:30 a.m. accident. Both were said to have been former Division 1 basketball players while in college. State Police Sr. Investigator Robert Bennett said the women were found with an SUV on the exit ramp between the Sprain Brook Parkway and I-287 in the Elmsford area. The driver, Lisa Moray, 22, of Wappingers Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meaghan Wood, 22, of Stormville, was rushed to Westchester Medical Center with a hip injury. Bennett said the investigation is continuing and police are reaching out to the public hoping to locate an eyewitness to the accident. They are urged to call police at 914-742-6400. Moray was on the varsity girls’ basketball team while she attended Roy C. Ketcham High School and was a member of the women’s basketball team at Sacred Heart University where she graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in education. As an athlete, she received many awards including being the all-time leading scorer for the Wappingers Central School District with 2,021 career points. |
