Strong winds, thunderstorms knock out power, down trees

HUDSON VALLEY – A late afternoon storm tore through the Hudson Valley and Catskills with a tornado watch in Livingston Manor and in Dutchess County, trees down across the region and a roof collapse in the Town of Newburgh.

Numerous accidents occurred including a fatal on I-84 in the Town of Wallkill.

Trees were downed in a number of locations and Metro-North Railroad service between Beacon and Poughkeepsie was suspended for a while as trees were knocked onto the tracks.

A large power outage was reported in the Wappingers area around 8 p.m.

A number of accidents were also reported in the early evening with a car and tractor-trailer involved in one accident on the exit 4 ramp of I-84 in the Town of Wallkill.
