Hinchey blames Administration for Medicare, other senior healthcare problems

Hinchey and Bassett

BLOOMINGBURG – Sullivan County senior citizens and Congressman Maurice Hinchey are on the same page when it comes to healthcare issues; it’s Washington’s fault for problems with Medicare, prescription drugs and other concerns.

Hinchey addressed the Sullivan County Senior Legislative Action Council during a luncheon in Bloomingburg Friday. Group President Pricilla Bassett said Medicare issues are a major concern for the nation’s aging residents.

“The privatization of Medicare that has begun with the Part D prescription drug plan and the whole Medicare modernization act, which truly was intended to sound a death knell for Medicare itself,” she said.

Hinchey didn’t miss the opportunity to blast the Bush Administration.

“It’s just another example of the hypocrisy of this Administration; how they are devoted to corporate interests but they don’t care about the people’s interests and why that needs to change.”

Hinchey has long been a critic of the Administration on issues of the war in Iraq and energy policy.
