Donaldson bows out of Ulster comptroller’s race

KINGSTON – Ulster County Legislature Chairman David Donaldson Tuesday announced he would not challenge Elliot Auerbach for the Democratic nomination for county comptroller.

Auerbach, the Ellenville village manager, won the party’s endorsement and Donaldson said he would consider running in a primary. Now, in a letter to “fellow Democrats,” Donaldson urged them to “unite behind” Auerbach.

Donaldson praised Auerbach for staying on “a positive message and always respecting each other.” And Auerbach said that he will now concentrate on running in the November election.

“I don’t anticipate any other Democratic opposition. Now we are focused on the general election in November and facing my Republican opponent,” he said.

James Quigley III will be on the GOP line in September.
