Entergy removes Indian Point Unit 2 from service for minor repair

BUCHANAN -- Entergy control room operators safely removed Indian Point Energy Center’s Unit 2 from service Wednesday morning to repair the plant’s main electric generator exciter.

The exciter, located in a non-nuclear area of the plant, controls the voltage on the generator. The repair cannot be made while the plant is operating.

The plant is expected to return to service within a couple days.

Unit 3 remains operating at 100 percent power and has been online continuously for 399 days.

Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, N.Y. is home to two nuclear reactors that generate 2,140 megawatts for customers in New York City and the lower Hudson Valley.
