Murder, suicide in Middletown

Blood-stained porch where Ochoa committed suicide
after killing his ex-girlfriend's brother

MIDDLETOWN – A man distraught over the recent breakup of his relationship by his girlfriend shot and killed her brother and then turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.

Middletown City Police Chief Matthew Byrne told that Federico Ochoa, 29, of Middletown, had called his ex-girlfriend, Lillian Toriano, asking to meet her so that he could see their one-year-old son.

As her brother, Moises Molina, 36, was driving her to meet him, Ochoa walked up to the car on the street at Wickham Avenue and Cortland Street and fired several shots at him. Molina drove a short distance and crashed into the side of a building at which point Ochoa walked up to the car and fired two more shots. Molina died later at Orange Regional Medical Center’s Horton Campus.

A police officer in the neighborhood heard a woman scream for help and drove to the scene at the same time as other cars responded when the police station received calls. At that point, they saw Ochoa walking down the street with a gun in his waistband and when he got to 64 Wickham, he stopped on a small porch, put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

He was dead at the scene.
