MONTICELLO – A Monticello man was killed early Wednesday morning when the car he was driving ran off a road and struck a tree.

Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said Leslie Sharoff, 66, was driving on South Maplewood Road in the Town of Thompson at around 7:30 a.m. when he ran off the road in front of 426 South Maplewood.

He was extricated from the vehicle by the Monticello Fire Department using the Jaws of Life and was flown by helicopter to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. An autopsy is pending.
