Orange County christens new dial-a-buses

Buses are lined up before being pressed into service

GOSHEN – Orange County has secured 13 new Dial-a-Buses to replace old ones and the new vehicles and the county only had to pay for 10 percent of $724,000 to purchase the ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel vehicles. The federal and state governments picked up the remainder of the tab.

As number of county and town officials came to Goshen Wednesday to celebrate receipt of the new vehicles.

Newburgh Town Supervisor Wayne Booth said they are seeing more and more use these days.

“This program has more and more need as the fuel crisis goes on and the prices go up,” he said. “Our ridership has more than doubled in the last few months.”

Four buses will go to the Town of Monroe Dial-A-Bus, three to the Towns of New Windsor-Cornwall DAB, two to the Town of Newburgh DAB, two to the Town of Wallkill DAB, and two new ADA para-transit buses.

County Executive Edward Diana said the old buses will either be sold for a nominal fee to the localities or be auctioned off.

The county also announced the publication of a new county transit guide.
