Troopers issue 173 summonses during 4th of July weekend

PUTNAM COUNTY — State Police were out in force over the holiday weekend aggressively enforcing New York State’s vehicle and traffic laws to reduce carnage on area roads and the persistence paid off.

Troopers from the Brewster, Somers, Stormville and Cortlandt barracks teamed up and issued 173 summonses for a variety of infractions ranging from speeding to failing to wear a seatbelt and from talking on a cell phone to operating a vehicle containing a child not seated in a safety restraint.

Sgt. John Somoskey said 152 speeding tickets were written on Route 684 with an additional 21 tickets issued for other violations. The top speed recorded on the interstate where the legal speed is 65 mph was 94 mph.

Troopers from the East Fishkill barracks which patrol I-84 from the Southeast-Danbury line to the New York-Pennsylvania border also reported issuing “dozens of speeding tickets” during the holiday weekend.
