CATSKILL – Once upon a time Greene County didn’t know which way to go in terms of its identity.

With economic development on the upswing, Industrial Development Agency Director Sandy Mathis said the county has come into its own, in a number of ways, unlike the Greene County of past years.

“Sometimes it was Capital Region, sometimes Hudson Valley, and it would even get to a third area when our tourism area was considered Northern Catskills,” he said. “As part of our marketing strategy about six years ago, we embraced being a part of everybody and really defined our own identity in the middle of everybody that we could really benefit by what each region was doing.”

On the economic development front, having shovel ready sites has been a big plus for the county, said Mathis.
