Delaware claims two lives on July 4   Update, victims identified

COCHECTON/YULAN –The first drowning occurred Friday morning when a Pablo Ferreira, 17, from Mount Vernon, drowned while swimming at Skinners Falls, known for treacherous rapids and deep pools. Others at the scene retrieved him from the river and attempted CPR.  Ferreira was pronounced dead at Catskill Regional Medical Center.

Friday afternoon, about 20 miles downstream, another man got in trouble while swimming near Yulan. Ryan Nibar, 27, of Queens, staying with a group at a riverside campground, may have stepped into a deep hole and got caught by the current.  His body was recovered Friday evening.

Police say it does not appear foul play, alcohol or drugs were involved in either incident.  Both appear to be tragic accidents.
