| Liberty police cars damaged in high-speed chase |
|
LIBERTY – A Liberty man faces multiple charges after leading police on a long high-speec chase, during which two village patrol cars were smashed by the suspect. Police received a report of a car being operated in a reckless manner, on Orchard Street, about 1:25 Friday morning. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled, at high speed, forcing two other vehicles off the road. After boxing in the car, at the intersection of Lincoln Place and Buckley Street, the suspect car rammed two police cars, causing extensive damage. The pursuit then moved to Parksville Road, then onto Route 17 West. Police called off the pursuit, because of high speed, near Livingston Manor. Police later learned that the suspect, Daniel Burgos, 23, of Liberty, was hiding at 209 Chestnut Street. Burgos attempted to flee, but was apprehended. Burgos is charged with second degree criminal mischief, a felony, rickless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation, and was issued 23 traffic tickets. He is being held in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
