| Affordable workforce housing nears completion |
||
WAWAYANDA – The first affordable workforce housing to be built in Orange County in years will begin to accept its first occupants in the next several weeks as Horizons at Wawayanda moves toward completion. The 107 unit apartments, off Route 6 in the Town of Wawayanda, are being developed by bothers Ken and Larry Regan. Ken Regan said that while they build affordable senior housing projects in the Hudson Valley, this one is unique. “It’s probably the first affordable workforce housing project that has happened here in Orange County for over 15 years, and it’s something we are really excited about,” he said. Area Senator John Bonacic is chairman of the Senate’s Housing Committee, attended a construction celebration ceremony on Monday. “Orange County is a growing, emerging market and in order for any businesses to survive, they need workers and they need an affordable place to live.” The affordable rents available for the Wawayanda project are made possible through a financial package including state bond financing and federal housing credits. Rents will go from $805 per month to $1,100 per month depending upon the size of the apartment and one’s income.
