Orange County awards community planning grants

GOSHEN – Eight municipal projects have been awarded a total of $87,000 in grants from Orange County under its Community Planning Grants program.

This sixth round of these grants has proven to be an effective means of encouraging communities to implement the goals of the county’s comprehensive plan, and cultivate inter-municipal cooperation, said County Executive Edward Diana.

“The various community will benefit from them and anytime we can help to renovate and to build again and help those buildings get renovated is something that we always look to do in this county and we will continue to do,” he said.

The projects receiving grants include:

  • $8,000 for the Town of Chester to help implement the Sugar Loaf Revitalization Plan
  • $10,000 for the Town of Cornwall to develop a downtown revitalization strategy
  • $15,800 for the Town of Tuxedo/Village of Tuxedo Park to support the creation of a lake management plan for their reservoir system
  • $7,500 for the Village of Walden to develop a Watershed Protection Plan for their wellfields
  • $7,500 for the Towns of Wallkill and Crawford to conduct an inter-municipal sewage-water feasibility study
  • $8,200 for the Town of Warwick to rewrite the zoning for the Rte 94 commercial corridor
  • $10,000 for the Village of Warwick to conduct a water supply system infrastructure evaluation and plan
  • $20,000 for the Villages of Woodbury and Harriman and the Town of Monroe to work towards creation of a transit-oriented development near the Harriman Train Station
