SCCC announces “seamless transfer consortium” with four-year college

Golladay (file): "excellent
opportunities"

LOCH SHELDRAKE – Students attending Sullivan County Community College have a new opportunity to move with ease into a four-year full degree program.

College President Dr. Dr. Mamie Howard-Golladay announced SCCC has officially entered into a "seamless transfer consortium” with SUNY Cobleskill in Cobleskill, NY.

"We are always looking for opportunities to assist our students in furthering their education beyond the associate's degree yet have them stay close to home.  This is one of those excellent opportunities," Dr. Howard-Golladay said.

The consortium will allow students who achieve an associate’s degree from SCCC to transfer those credits to SUNY Cobleskill and receive credit for the first two years of a similar baccalaureate degree program at SUNY Cobleskill, with no need for articulation agreements between the schools or course-by-course reviews for the students.

“Allowing our local students and out-of-county students to spend three years at SCCC instead of two will be a great bonus for the college, and allow these students to truly become part of the SCCC and Sullivan County communities. Furthermore, as college costs continue to rise, it allows families to consider local alternatives for three of the four years of an undergraduate degree,” said Legislature Chairman Jonathan Rouis.

“This consortium is a great opportunity for Sullivan County students because it eliminates much of the red tape associated with transferring out of SCCC after two years,” said Legislative Minority Leader Leni Binder.

The consortium will also permit SUNY Cobleskill to accept a significant number of credits beyond those required for an associate’s degree, so that students may complete all of their general education requirements at SCCC, spending three years in Sullivan County and their final year at Cobleskill. Furthermore, students completing their associate’s degree at SCCC with a 2.0 or better GPA will be guaranteed a space at SUNY Cobleskill to further their education.
