West Nile virus mosquitoes found in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – A mosquito pool carrying West Nile virus has been found in the City of Newburgh, Orange County Health Department officials said Friday.

The discover “is a reminder that this virus is still present and a risk,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Jean Hudson.

She said residents should wear appropriate clothing and consider sprays when outdoors and check their property for any pooling or stagnant water.

Standing water should be removed, officials said. That means be sure plastic containers, ceramic pots, clogged gutters, wading pools, wheelbarrows, and discarded tires that collect water should be dumped and birdbath water should be changed twice a week.
