Orange County Water Authority to conduct wastewater treatment system tests

GOSHEN - The Orange County Water Authority wants to conduct a study of wastewater treatment facilities.

The county agency, along with the Village of Greenwood Lake and the Town of Warwick, are seeking applications from property owners on or near the New York side of Greenwood Lake, to allow installation of onsite wastewater treatment plants at no cost to the property owner, said County Planning Commissioner and Water Authority Executive Director David Church.

“We’ve got about a half a million dollars to analyze and then construction two small systems,” he said. One would probably be for a single property and one would be for a cluster pr properties, be it residential or commercial.”

The plan would be to demonstrate innovative system designs and treatment technologies that can reduce the amount of phosphorus entering the lake from wastewater sources while minimizing energy costs.

Once the study has been completed, the property owners would assume ownership of the systems.
