Plane crash victim was Long Island teacher

POUGHKEEPSIE – The victim of a plane crash at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome on Sunday afternoon was a Wading River, NY man, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The pilot and sole occupant of the replica of a 1917 Nieuport 24 biplane was Vincent Nasta, 47, of Suffolk County. He was killed when the aircraft plummeted into a wooded area 1,000 from the runway at about 4 p.m. and burst into flames.

The plane crashed in the final minutes of an air show at the Aerodrome.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.

Nasta was an experienced air show pilot and was a certified commercial flight instructor, as well as a teacher and noted illustrator of children’s books, Aerodrome officials said.
