BLOOMING GROVE – Town Police in Blooming Grove are investigating the shooting death of an attorney on Friday morning. Donald Forte, 66, was found on the driveway of his home in Blooming Grove, next to his pick-up truck. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the Orange Regional Medical Center Arden Hill Campus in Goshen. Police Det. Brett Weedon told MidHudsonNew.com that the victim’s girlfriend and a neighbor found him at around 8:30 a.m. An investigation is under way to determine if Forte was the victim of an accidental shooting or a self-inflicted wound. Word of Forte’s death surfaced on Friday, the third day of a DWI jury trial in Orange County Court in Goshen, where he was handling the defense in the case. Judge Robert Freehill declared a mistrial due to Forte’s death. Forte, who had an office in Chester, had been practicing in Orange and Sullivan counties for over 20 years. |
