NYSBA eligibility for health insurance coverage clears audit

HIGHLAND -- The New York State Bridge Authority has been given a clean bill of health from the state Comptroller’s Office in so far as practices for enrolling employees in the state Health Insurance Program,

The Authority, which operates five Hudson Valley bridges, participates in the state program, which provides health insurance coverage to state and local government employees and their dependents.

The audit examined the Authority’s practices for enrolling individuals and their dependents in the health program, and found that the Authority was only enrolling people who met the eligibility requirements.

The auditors determined, however, that the Authority was not always obtaining sufficient documentation from its employees to demonstrate that individuals being enrolled as dependents qualified for this coverage under state rules.

The audit recommended that the Authority obtain and maintain such documentation.
