HAVERSTRAW – State Police at Haverstraw have charged four Brooklyn residents – three women and a man – with stealing wallets out of purses of unsuspecting workers and shoppers at retail locations in Rockland, Orange and Ulster counties in New York, the New Canaan area in Connecticut and as far south as Brevard County, Florida.

Charged with 11 counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana were Brad Davy, 23, Inga Padilo, 19, Shameeka Lawrence, 24, and Concetta Goosbey, 19, all of Brooklyn.

When police stopped the four for a traffic check on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Haverstraw, they found them in possession of several stolen credit cards, over $1,000 in property purchased illegally with the cards and a small amount of marijuana.

Police said four acted as a team to distract women in order to obtain their wallets. They would then immediately use the stolen credit cards to purchase cellular phones, high-end electronic equipment, clothing and gift cards.

Town of Stony Point and Ramapo detective bureaus assisted State Police in the investigation.

There are further charges pending in the towns of Haverstraw, Ramapo, Stony Point, Newburgh and New Paltz, police said.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the scam is asked to call State Police Investigator Brendan Tumulty, Jr. at 845-364-0200.
