Port Jervis Humane Society dedicates Sid’s Barns

DEERPARK – The Humane Society of Port Jervis held a dedication ceremony for Sid’s Barns. The two small barns, named for the late Port Jervis chiropractor, and former Montague Mayor, Dr. Sidney Rose, will house larger animals such as goats, mules, and horses that the Human Society has had to send to offsite facilities for shelter.

Volunteer Jill Wojtasek gave a brief background on how the barns were made possible through a fundraising effort earlier by the Gazette. A barn for larger animals was the goal. The hope was to raise $15,000.  In fact, over $17,000 was collected in one month. That paid for one barn.  Rozewood Pet Food & Supplies of Montague, New Jersey then surprised them with a second barn.

Sid Rose’s wife spoke briefly about her husband, his love of animals and his willingness to share his barn with the Humane Society. She said that he would be very pleased with the tribute to him and his dedication to animals.
