Sorensen to run for Assembly

Sorensen
Former Sullivan County Planning and Community Development Commissioner Alan Sorensen will announce today that he will run for the 98th state Assembly District sat left vacant by the recent untimely death of Assemblyman Jacob Gunther.

Sorensen, who most recently led the effort to bring the county’s Emerald Office Park its first tenant with Crystal Run Healthcare, will make his candidacy official at news conferences in Monticello and Middletown.

Gunther’s widow, Aileen, has already announced her candidacy to run for the post held by her late husband. She will run as a Democrat. Sorensen is a Republican and Conservative.

Sorensen resigned from his county position last week, to avoid a possible Hatch Act conflict. The act, dating back to the 1940s, prohibits public employees who work for agencies that manage federal funds from running for public office.
