Man gets 25 years robbing, tying up couple

Orange County court Judge Stewart Rosenwasser yesterday sentenced a Newburgh man to 25 years in state prison for his conviction of robbery in the first degree and other crimes.

Joseph Perez, 35, was found guilty by a jury last April.

“The jury found that on July 17, 2002 that Perez forcibly stole property from Richard Bucci and that was during the course of a home invasion robbery in which the victims were duct taped during the course of the crime,” said District Attorney Frank Phillips. “Perez wore a mask but left behind a single fingerprint.” Based upon that, Assistant DA Robert Ostrov convinced the jury that Perez was guilty.

The sentenced imposed on Perez is the maximum set by law.
