Fire destroys Beacon house

Beacon – Fire caused considerable damage to a 2½ story wood frame house at 111 Verplank Avenue in Beacon early Tuesday morning.

Beacon firefighters originally were advised that some residents might have been trapped, but they were later found outside. One resident was transportation to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A small garage in the back of the house was also destroyed.

The fire is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit of the Beacon City Fire and City Police departments.

Beacon firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Village of Fishkill Fire Department and Alamo EMS. Glenham and Rombout fire departments provided coverage for the city and residents of the structure were assisted by the Red Cross.
