WALLKILL – A passenger in a car traveling on I-84 in the Town of Wallkill Monday evening died as the result of injuries she sustained when the car struck a tree. She was identified as Kara Caltavuturo, 21, of Walden.

State Police Troop T from the New Hampton barracks reported a car driven by Danielle Cody, 20, also of Walden had slid off the roadway, down an embankment striking a tree with the passenger side door.

Caltavuturo sustained serious head injuries as the result of the impact. Both women were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown for treatment of their injuries. Caltavuturo was being transferred to Westchester Medical Center, but was diverted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern where she was pronounced dead.

Troop T Collision Reconstruction Unit members investigated with no cause determined at this point.

Troop F BCI members are currently conducting the criminal investigation.
