Warm, dry weather makes for more brush fires

WAWARSING – Thursday’s warm weather mixed with a lack of precipitation resulted in large brush fires for the second day in a row.

On Wednesday, a raging brush fire damaged a significant amount of brush and woodland in the Plattekill area.

On Thursday, firefighters fought a major brush fire in Minnewaska State Park off Route 209 and Route 44. Fire departments from Sullivan and Orange counties assisted the local departments from Ulster County.

Another brush fire raged off Kathleen Court off Anawanna Lake Road in Kiamesha Lake.

Monticello firefighters called for mutual aid from neighboring departments to douse those flames.
