Zimet jumps into Ulster exec race

Zimet: "Your vision
is my vision"

KINGSTON – Ulster County Legislator Susan Zimet of New Paltz, who has been testing the waters for a possible run for the new county executive’s post, will announce officially her intention to run on April 21.

She told Ulster County Democratic Women at the group’s annual meeting Monday night that she would formally announce her candidacy then. She will face fellow Democrat Michael Hein, the current county administrator, for the new top job.

“UCDW has been in the forefront of fiscal responsibility, transparent government, healthcare. Your voice is my voice. Your vision is my vision,” she said.

Zimet, a former New Paltz Supervisor, lost in a challenge to veteran Republican State Senator John Bonacic two years ago.

Esopus resident Robin Yess reportedly plans to run for county executive as a Republican.

Alan Wikman, of Kingston, who regularly attends county legislature meetings, also plans to run but is not seeking party affiliation.
