BEARSVILLE – Former Ulster County Legislator Michael Stock Wednesday night said he is considering a run for the State Assembly in the 101st District currently held by Democrat Kevin Cahill of Kingston.

Stock, who served in the county legislature for four years and was Republican majority leader, said he is contemplating a candidacy.

“I have been approached and am exploring my options,” he told MidHudsonNews.com.

Stock has been involved in the production of a documentary film, which will be aired in the next few days. Between that and his son’s competitive snowmobile racing, he has been tied up in recent months. But, he said he would give the idea of getting back into politics some serious thought.

Cahill, a popular lawmaker, has run unopposed in some past elections.  His brother, Brian, is the current majority leader of the county legislature

Stock, legislature majority leader at the time, lost his last reelection bid, three years ago, in the wake of the controversy over the Law Enforcement Center.  That was when Democrats took control of the legislature for the first time in two decades.
