Rolison: Student melee investigation progressing

POUGHKEEPSIE – The review of the student melees last Monday, March 11 in the City of Poughkeepsie is moving forward, Mayor Robert Rolison said Friday.

“At this time, it appears that during an altercation between two female students, which was viewed and video-recorded by a large group of individuals, to juveniles were arrested for interfering with the police effort to break up the fight,” the mayor said. “The fight is believed to be a continuation of an earlier altercation involving the same two students in the 4 p.m. fight,” he said. Poughkeepsie police successfully deescalated the situation.

“The renew of the incident is progressing in a timely but deliberate manner and I am receiving frequent updates from Police Chief Pape and our city administration,” Rolison said. “Additional video, as well as written witness statements and facts uncovered from a number of eye witnesses have advanced our understanding of the situation.”

He said they are waiting for more information “so that we may make a fair and reasonable judgment as to what actually happened.”
