Port Jervis crime statistics show positive trend

PORT JERVIS – Preliminary crime numbers for 2018 in the City of Port Jervis show a significant improvement over 2017. 

Common Council Police Liaison Regis Foster reported at Monday night’s meeting that almost all categories of crime were down.

“Part One crimes, which represent the most serious crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, burglary and aggravated assault have decreased by 24.19 percent and Part Two offenses, which includes categories such as simple assault, criminal mischief, quality of life offenses, weapons, controlled substances and sex offenses have decreased by 19 percent as compared with 2017.”

Foster said a “proactive effort to prevent crime is working effectively.”
