Latimer signs North 60 development deal

Developer John Fareri, right, all smiles as Latimer signs the contract

WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County Executive George Latimer signed a 99-year lease with developer Fareri Associates on Thursday for the company to develop 60 acres of county-owned property adjacent to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Dubbed the North 60, the proposal was originally approved by the county board of legislators over a year ago.

Latimer told a breakfast meeting of the Westchester Association the project will now move forward.

The Westchester BioScience and Technology Center will be developed with up to two million square feet with a mixed use of hotel and retail. The Board of Legislators approved the lease in late 2017.  After that there was discussion about possible development of housing included, but Latimer said that was taken off the table.

At build-out, the project is expected to create $1.2 billion in private sector investments, create thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenues and rent for the county.
