Fishkill Correctional inmate strangles female officer

FISHKILL – A female corrections officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility was strangled unconscious by a prisoner who is serving 12 years for manslaughter.

The incident occurred around 9:22 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, according to the officer’s union.

The officer who was working in the mess hall spotted the inmate leaving the room where he was assigned to work with two bulges in his front pockets. The officer questioned the inmate and directed him to remove what was in there. The inmate removed two cups of yogurt and threw them at the officer and charged her, moving them into the tray room where he grabbed her around the neck.

She tried to radio for help but was unable to reach the device because of the hold the inmate had on her.

That was the last thing she can remember before waking up to water being thrown on her face by other staff members.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was unable to return to duty.
