Two seriously injured in Esopus head-on crash

ESOPUS – Two people had to be extricated from their vehicles following a two-car crash in the area of 617 Route 9W in the Town of Esopus early Sunday.

The head-on accident, at 4:40 a.m., trapped both drivers who sustained serious injuries, according to the Esopus Fire Department.

The Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad personnel transported the victims to a landing zone where they were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Route 9W was closed for some three hours.

Esopus firefighters were also assisted by Highland Hose Company, Port Ewen and St. Remy fire departments, Mobile Life Support Services, Ulster County Emergency Services, State Department of Transportation, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and State Police.
