Poughkeepsie motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV

Accident scene on Route 55 early Thursday morning

LAGRANGE – A 25-year-old Poughkeepsie man was killed Thursday morning when the motorcycle he was operating eastbound on Route 55 near Noxon Road in LaGrange struck an SUV that was going in the same direction.

State Police said the cyclist, Kevin Sheehan, 25, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was rushed to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers said the investigation suggests that his 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2017 GMC Acadia.

Responding officers began life-saving measures until LaGrange Fire Department members took over.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, LaGrange Fire Department and Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
