Nearby store owners help thwart Port Jervis robbery attempt

PORT JERVIS – A Port Jervis man is charged with attempted robbery and assault for allegedly attacking an employee of a store at 80 Front Street in that city on Monday, October 1.

City Police said David Strobeck, 32, went into the business at around 8:45 a.m., assaulted the employee and tried to open and steal the contents of the establishment’s cash drawer.

Strobeck fled after nearby store owners disrupted the robbery attempt.  He was apprehended less than two hours later by Port Jervis and Deerpark Town Police and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

The assaulted employee is recovering in Bon Secours Community Hospital.
