Two shot dead in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – Two Newburgh residents were shot and killed and a third person was wounded in a late night shooting incident in the City of Newburgh.

City Police identified the victims as Alexis Camacho,25, and Antwan Thomas, 28. A third person was shot, but was treated and released at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

The shootings occurred along Liberty Street in the areas of Gidney Avenue and Clinton Street about a block from Mount Saint Mary College.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is urged to call Newburgh City Police at 845-561-3131. Callers can remain anonymous.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit and Orange County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident along with city police.
