POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro’s run for governor may become reality.

Months ago he acknowledged he was considering seeking the Republican nomination for the state’s top job, and then he said he was not interested.

Now he has the backing of the state GOP committee’s top officials; he won a straw poll during a closed door meeting in Saratoga Springs on Friday. He defeated State Senator John DeFrancisco.

Molinaro has yet to officially announce he is interested in challenging Democrat Andrew Cuomo but regional political sources say he is in the race for the long haul.
