Hundreds of police officers flock to funeral of Carmel cop

A long funeral procession begins

CARMEL – Gary Pietropaolo, the Carmel Police officer killed when his motorcycle was struck last Thursday in Kent Cliffs, was eulogized on Tuesday as a warm, giving person who was a rising star in law enforcement.

Pietropaolo, who was 29, was to be married in the days ahead.

Hundreds of police officers from the Mid-Hudson Valley were joined by officers from the New York metropolitan area as well as other locations around the state, to pay their respects to the young officer who lived in Fishkill.

Pietropaolo graduated from the Westchester Police Academy in 2011 and began his career with the SUNY New Paltz Police Department.
