New Esopus supervisor to target economic development

Harris, left, takes the oath of office

ULSTER PARK – New Town of Esopus Supervisor Shannon Harris set her priorities during her swearing in on Monday.

Based on discussions with town residents, Harris, a Democrat, said economic development will be the number one focus.

“Having a clear land use policy in place, revitalizing the hamlet within the Town of Esopus, giving them a distinct identity, and better connecting them and helping us to put in place different strategies to attract new businesses to the town.”

Harris also wants to conduct a tax levy analysis and seek grants to grow Hudson River waterfront development while protecting the river and in that regard, opposing the parking of additional oil barges on the Hudson.
