Serino squeaks by to victory over Smythe

POUGHKEEPSIE – State Senator Susan Serino was officially declared the winner in her re-election bid.

Following the counting of absentee and affidavit ballots, the Republican Serino defeated Democrat Karen Smythe by 695 votes, just over one-half of one percent in a district that saw over 118,000 ballots cast.

The Dutchess County Board of Elections announced the final tally on Monday.

“Having spent the past year meeting people in the 41st District, I am more committed than ever to remain engaged in the community and advocate for real, positive change,” said Smythe.
