Highland names former Port Jervis school superintendent as interim head

Bongiovi

HIGHLAND – The Highland Central School District Board of Education named Thomas Bongiovi as a full-time interim superintendent.

Bongiovi, who until July was the superintendent in the Port Jervis City School District, replaces Deborah Haab, who retired this fall after an eight-year stint running the Highland district.

Bongiovi served as Port Jervis superintendent since 2013. He began his educational career as a social studies teacher, working his way up to assistant principal, middle and high school principal, and assistant superintendent for instruction before moving to that district’s top job.

In his new post, he said he hopes to “continue the many positive initiatives that are in place and explore new and exciting programs and opportunities for our students.”

The Highland School Board expects to hire a permanent superintendent by February.
