NEW CITY – A Spring Valley man pled guilty in Rockland County Court
to manslaughter in connection with the death of a baby boy, who was being
wheeled in a stroller by his mother.
Albert Gomez, 63, admitted that just before 2:50 p.m. on June 26, he ran
down a mother and her three children during a road rage incident directed
at a taxi on Route 59 in Spring Valley.
According to the charges, Gomez’s car struck the 38-year-old woman,
her two daughters, ages 13 and nine, and three-month-old son as they walked
on the shoulder of the road. The infant, Mayer Braun, died from his injuries
on July 5. His mother and sisters also suffered serious, but not life-threatening
Gomez remains in the Rockland County Jail.
When sentenced in February 2018, Gomez will receive 1 1/3 to four years
in state prison.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said Gomez “will
be held accountable for causing the tragic death of a baby boy who had
his entire life before him.
