Three-car crash sends two to hospital

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – Two drivers were hospitalized following a three-car crash in the Town of Southeast Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Route 312 near the intersection of Zimmer Road.

According to initial reports, a man was driving alone on Route 312 in a Honda SUV when his car drifted across the center of the road into the opposite lane. The vehicle sideswiped an eastbound Jeep SUV occupied by a male driver and three passengers and then ran head-on into a pickup truck operated by a male driver.

The drivers of the Honda and the pickup truck sustained apparent trauma injuries to their chests and necks, deputies said. They were both taken to area hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The four occupants of the Jeep were uninjured.
