Hamlet of Wallkill woman charged with welfare fraud

KINGSTON – Ulster County continues its zero-tolerance policy with the arrest of a hamlet of Wallkill woman on welfare charges.

Madeline Marrero-Ruiz, 47, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with the felonies of welfare fraud, grand larceny and four counts of offering a false instrument for filing.  She was processed and released to reappear in Ulster County Court.

An investigation by the county Social Services Department’s Special Investigation Unit in conjunction with the district attorney’s office alleged that Marrero-Ruiz filed several falsified documents with the Department of Social Services from November 2014 through October 2017 resulting in her collecting $8,325 in SNAP benefits to which she was not entitled.

To contact the county’s welfare and anti-fraud and abuse hotline, call 855-SIU-TIPS or 855-748-8477.
