Wappinger man charged with possession of unregistered, loaded handgun

EAST FISHKILL – A Wappinger man is in the Dutchess County Jail following an incident in East Fishkill just before noon on December 26.

Town police officers were called to a report of a disturbance at a Hopewell Junction business where Jeffrey Kimmel, 30, was allegedly threatening employees.  He was found in possession of a knife and an unregistered, loaded handgun, both worn under clothing on his belt. He was also found to be in possession of over one ounce of marijuana.

After being disarmed, he became combative and resisted arrest. 

Kimmel was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, both as felonies, as well as criminal possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, all as misdemeanors. Bail was set at $30,000 cash or $60,000 bond.
