Woman struck and killed by freight train

TOWN OF ULSTER – A woman was struck and killed by a CSX locomotive in the Town of Ulster early Tuesday afternoon.

Town Police said the pedestrian-train accident occurred on tracks off Route 9W near Tractor Supply at around 1:15 p.m.

The northbound train, heading from New Jersey to Michigan, consisted of two locomotives and 89 empty car carriers, according to a CSX spokesman.

The cause remains under investigation.

Ulster Police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster Hose Fire Department and CSX Police.
